How can I prepare my dog before the appointment
so that the process is more enjoyable?
PUPPIES
The more we teach our puppy early on, the more confident it will feel. It is very important to teach our puppy the grooming process, especially in breeds and coats that will require intensive care for the rest of their lives.
WE START WITH PETTING
One thing that almost all of us neglect is touching and petting our dog’s feet and legs. So when it visits the professional groomer to have its nails trimmed or its legs trimmed, it will be very scared because he is not used to it. The same happens with its face. Many of us pet the head and ears but rarely or never the face. And so it gets scared when we suddenly go to cut its bangs, the hairs in the corners of its eyes, or its whiskers. So, we make sure to pet our puppy on all parts of its body, with an emphasis on those that will need regular care.
HAIRDRYER
The noise made by a professional hair dryer is very loud and if your dog is not used to it, it will be scared. At home, when we dry our hair, we can keep it close or leave the door open so that it gets used to the sound. When we wash our puppy at home, it is a good idea to dry it with a hairdryer for the same reason. We put our puppy on a towel and set the hairdryer to low. We initially keep it at a distance and slowly bring it closer, always paying attention to its reaction. We also have its favorite treats with us so that we can reward it when its reaction is positive.
ADULT DOGS
Here things are simpler. All he needs is to have released his strength, which we can achieve with a simple walk, and to have done its needs so that it doesn’t have to strain himself during the grooming process.
